Promotion/Relegation System

This event will introduce a Promotion/Relegation System. This system is a sporting structure that connects multiple divisions within the league, incentivizing performance and fostering competitive balance. Teams are rewarded or penalized based on their results, ensuring a constantly evolving competitive environment.

  • Promotion: The top-performing teams in a lower division move up to a higher division for the next season.
  • Relegation: The bottom-performing teams in a higher division are moved down to a lower division for the next season.

This structure creates a merit-based pathway for teams to rise through the ranks or face the challenge of rebuilding in a lower division.

Season 1: Stake Your Claim

  • Should a team not participate in a single season, they must re-register by the specified deadline (typically two weeks prior to the commencement of the season) to retain their original fee.
  • In the event that a team does not participate in more than one consecutive season, they forfeit their grandfathered fee and are required to pay the current season’s entry fee.

UPA Membership Benefits

  • UPA Pro Members receive 20% off entry into ALL Seasons.
  • UPA Plus Members receive 10% off entry into Season ONE.
  • This exclusive benefit rewards member loyalty and helps teams focus on competition without financial constraints.

Dumping Policy

Definition:
Dumping refers to the practice of submitting a large number of game screenshots or box scores at the end of a season or within a short timeframe to meet a deadline. This undermines league operations and fails to accurately reflect roster activity and compliance throughout the season.

Policy:

  • Teams are required to submit game screenshots/box scores immediately after each game to ensure transparency and accuracy.
  • Submissions must be made in the designated channels, such as Discord or LeagueOS.

Penalties for Dumping:

  • Point Deductions:

    • Teams caught dumping will face a deduction of 100 points per screenshot for their first violation.
    • Deductions will escalate for repeat violations.
  • Zero or Negative Points & Expulsion:

    • Teams whose point totals fall to zero or below due to penalties will face:
      • Suspension from the competition.
      • Fines determined by UPA Admins.
      • Immediate expulsion from Road to $25K, including a mandatory $250 fine, which must be paid before the team is eligible to participate in any future UPA events or affiliates.

Q: What about opportunities for newer teams?

A: The Open Division allows new teams to gain experience and advance through structured divisions.

Q: How does the league incentivize participation?

Q: How does the league avoid stagnant competition?

A: Structured schedules and wildcard opportunities keep each season dynamic and competitive.

Q: Are rewards proportional to effort?

A: Yes, with prizes for success at all division levels and a $20,000 grand prize in the Invitational.

Q: What are the odds of winning a prize per season?

A: The odds vary by division:

1st Division: 2 out of 12 teams win a prize each season (~16.7%).

2nd Division: 2 out of 13 teams win a prize each season (~15.4%).

3rd Division: 2 out of 13 teams win a prize each season (~15.4%).

Q: How does the league address team management challenges?

A: Clear roster rules, such as requiring a designated captain and incentives for playing with a full team, simplify team management. Additionally, the Open Roster system offers flexibility,

allowing teams to add and rotate players as needed. This ensures teams can maintain competitiveness even in the face of scheduling conflicts or roster changes.

Q: What if teams struggle to stay engaged?

A: The league fosters engagement through a thriving community, regular updates, and seasonal highlights. Seasonal highlights often feature memorable matches, standout players, and exclusive content to celebrate league milestones.
